Lakes Entrance Golf Club members Anne Furphy and Robyn Downing were successful in the club qualifier for the 2024 Doris Chambers Cup.
Furphy and Downing’s 30 points was enough to get them over the line and off to the state final at Yering Meadows on October 24.
The annual Chambers Cup stableford four-somes is a time-honoured event, contested by clubs statewide, the winners getting to test themselves against the state’s best.
Doris Chambers (November 20, 1884 – December 24, 1983) was an English amateur golfer.
She won the Women’s Amateur Championship in 1923, having been a semi finalist in 1909.
She represented England in the Women’s Home Internationals nine times between 1906 and 1925, and was British Curtis Cup captain in 1934, 1936 and 1948.
It was another huge week on the competition front at Lakes Entrance with the winners being Christopher Atkinson (men’s Saturday), Julie Rowe (ladies Saturday), Igor Malajew (men’s Thursday), Bruce Wilmhurst (ruthless and toothless) and Margaret MacManus (ladies Tuesday).
