Food, wine and good vibes

It is a family affair at Boathouse Food and Wine with Brendan and Cathy Roworth's daughter Chloe doing the cooking and son Tom behind the bar on weekends.

The wait is now over, with the renovation of the old Boatshed Café to Boatshed Food and Wine proving to be a remarkable transformation.

And it is now open for business.

The Roworth family – Brendan, Kathy, Tom and Chloe – took over the café in 2023 and from the word go showed their love of food and service, making it a popular destination on Marine Parade.

They had future plans for a major renovation to enhance the view and vibe of the lake while sipping on a wine or coffee.

It has now come to fruition.

The improvements also include the outside bar area which has proven to be a popular place when the weather is fine, to sit and relax while watching boating activity on the North Arm.

The venue is now open from 11am for coffee and cake, with the kitchen open from noon to 8.30pm for tapas and main meals all day, closing at 11pm.

“Although it is upgraded and taken on a new life it is still a relaxed dining atmosphere, we would love to see our regulars back for a coffee and catch up,” Brendan said.

“Everyone who visits are treated like they are valued customers, with old fashioned service on offer. There is a huge focus on wine, with nearly every local winery on board and our aim is to bring it to another level with other small boutique wineries that are family run just like us.”

You can choose your wine on the basis of Chloe’s ever-evolving menu or, if required, with Brendan’s assistance to help with the selection. Wines and beers can also be purchased as a takeaway option.

“We want to offer locals and tourists a unique selection of beverages and an experience which is a new concept for Lakes,” Brendan said.

“Since opening, the observation has been one of people gathering around a table, enjoying good company and excellent food and wine.”

Keeping with the family affair the Roworth’s son Tom, who has always worked in hospitality either behind the bar or as a hospitality accountant, is travelling from Melbourne for Friday and Saturday service. This is to assist to assist with the training of staff’s bar knowledge and food service.

Brendan and Kathy Roworth enjoy the view from their restaurant.
