The Firkins return to Lake Tyers Beach Hall on November 15, 16 and 17 for the seventh annual Firkin Exhibition.
The Lake Tyers Beach Hall has undergone extensive renovations over the past year and curator of exhibition Phil Evans says the committee is excited to be returning the Firkins to the place where it all began.
Firkins are explained as a small cask formerly used for liquids, butter, or fish which are no larger than 30cm height x 30cm width x 30cm depth.
“This year the second, third and popular vote prizes have doubled in value to reflect the extraordinary diversity and depth of talent that is exhibited on the floor of the exhibition space each year,” Phil said.
“Once again, the exhibition is sponsored by Firkin stalwart Tony from stiuidio ealaine in Lakes Entrance and we thank him for his continued support.
“We are honoured that this year our judge is Crystal Stubbs from the East Gippsland Art Gallery. Crystal brings a wealth of experience to the difficult task of selecting the winners from amongst what is always an eclectic array of entries. Of course, visitors to the exhibition can have their own say in the prize winners by casting their vote for the People’s Choice Firkin.
“The free community dinner that follows the opening is always popular, and we welcome old friends and new faces to join us in enjoying good food and great conversation.”
The 2024 Firkin Exhibition opens at 6pm this Friday with the official opening, followed at 7pm by the community dinner. On Saturday 16 the exhibition is open from 10am to 5pm and on Sunday from 10am to 1pm.
The Lake Tyers Beach Beach Hall is located at 1 Mill Point Road, Toorloo Arm.
