Lakes Entrance 1 now sits on top of the Gippsland Bowls Region Superleague ladder after defeating Lakes Entrance 2 in the local derby last Friday evening in the twilight.
Lakes Entrance 2 and Bairnsdale went into the round unbeaten but with both going down, Bairnsdale falling to the improving Stratford, Lakes Entrance 1 has seized top spot.
A healthy crowd which was respectful of the high quality of play they witnessed was on hand for the 70-61 victory, with momentum soaring throughout the contest.
It was a similar story to last week’s victory over Stratford for Lakes 1, with Eric Spence, Margaret Brandhoj, Jim Northe, Joanne Martin (24-16) and Julie Simpson, Daniel Roberts, Scott Davidson and Daffy Rawlings (26-22) all having good games and coming out winners.
Michael Bratt, Johannes Kool, Maurie Carroll and Harley Johnson got a rink back for Lake Entrance 2, beating Mike McKay, Barry Roberts, Kevin Dowie and Kevin Brown, 23-20.
Lakes Entrance 2 now slumps to fifth on the table after the loss.
Lakes Entrance 3 moved to the top of the ladder after defeating an improving Lakes Entrance 4 in their division two clash, 63-51.
Lakes 4 won two of the rinks, but it wasn’t enough to secure the match, the outstanding effort of Ian Morris, Alan Light, Bob Lucas and Samuel Berlingeri winning 31-10, the difference between the two sides.
The combination is in sensational form, winning last week 35-9.
Rob Norder, Victor Timpano, Michael Buttifant and Charlie Abela (22-14) and Joseph Hales, Colin Grassby, Peter Alves-Veira and Ken Melville (19-18) were all winners for Lakes Entrance 4, who despite the loss, look to be on an upward trajectory.
Both Lakes Entrance sides in division three went down, Lakes 5 losing to Bruthen 56-24, and Lakes 6 succumbing late in a tight contest 36-32 to Bairnsdale Golf.
Kerrie Darby, Geoff Webb, Faye Cannizzaro and Christine Piatek won their rink 19-17.
