LAKES ENTRANCE: The team at Pearce Cameron in Bairnsdale is producing an outstanding playground on the foreshore in Lakes Entrance with $1.6 million secured from the previous Federal Government. The East Gippsland Shire Council is managing the project and has also contributed more than $200,000 to the playground which features indigenous-themed attractions along with a water play area and picnic facilities. What’s going on around Lakes Entrance?

Here’s a small guide to events on the horizon.

KALIMNA

The Kalimna Hotel will host karaoke on Friday evening on the main stage hosted by Ryan Shore. A fun night is promised, with cocktails special available on the night.

LAKES ENTRANCE

Lakes Entrance Golf Club is holding its annual tournament from October 16-20. As part of the event the club will be holding a qualifying round for the Golf Victoria’s 4BBB Championship.

That 4BBB will be played as part of the first day of the tournament.

Market stall holders are required for the Rocktober event in Myer Street on Saturday, October 12 between 10am – 4pm.

The first Day of the Dead Mini Festival will take place on November 9-10. It will begin in 2024, modestly with a couple of masterclasses, workshops, and movie screenings, with the main activity to create an Ofrenda at the Slipway. The Ofrenda is the heart of this celebration, filled with colourful and meaningful objects. A volunteer meeting will be held on October 12 at the Slipway from 1-3pm for anyone who would like to be involved.

LAKE TYERS BEACH

The perfect beast symbol of the Waterwheel Tavern continues to marvel with its ability to pop up in places all over the world. This week there was a positive sighting at the Red Sox’s famous Fenway Park in Boston, to see one of the greatest grunge bands of all time, Pearl Jam. The beast continue to deliver.

MAFFRA: The Gippsland Vehicle Collection in Maffra hosted the Mercedes Benz Club of New South Wales out and about on their “Long Way Euround” tour on the weekend, adding a bit to the the premises. (PS)
ORBOST: It was all hands on deck for the spring clean at the Orbost Club Hotel recently, part owner, Jack Welsh picking up the paint brush. (PS)
