The Lakes Entrance reserves looked well matched to end a four-game East Gippsland Football Netball League losing streak last Saturday after an impressive beginning to their 2024 campaign.
Unfortunately with a win required to stay in touch with the top four, Wy Yung took the field with possibly its strongest combination for the year and ran out easy 99-point victors.
It a massive 174-point turn around from last time, with the Seagulls 75-point winners at home.
The Tigers set the tone with a blistering first quarter, kicking 7.1 to lead by 43 points at the first change, the Seagulls held scoreless.
Things only got marginally better for Lakes in the second term kicking one goal to the Tigers’ four, the home side generating plenty of clean ball movement as the margin extended to 65 at the main break.
Tensions flared on the half time siren however it failed to ignite the Seagulls who were again held scoreless in a fruitless third quarter.
They did however limit the second half damage, conceding six goals compared to 11 in the first.
Andrew Hatch, Byron Daley, Ben Cameron, Angus Stevens and Zac Hooper were named in the best for Lakes.
The thirds had a bye, with Wy Yung not fielding a team in 2024. the Seagulls currently sit in third place on the ladder, keen to push Lindenow and Orbost Snowy Rovers for a coveted double chance spot in the second half of the season.
Coach Jordan Cullen has the boys playing some good football at present, with this weeks game against the Blues vital if they are to push for a first or second finish.
