Join the feast

A group of East Gippsland locals came together last Wednesday night for a magnificent banquet feast at the Floating Dragon restaurant in Lakes Entrance.

The group formed in response to the recent bushfires that have ravaged the East Gippsland region and economy.

Spokesperson for the group, Kerrilee Kimber, said the idea to put some money back into the local economy, by filling a local restaurant, began with a simple question what can we do?

“At a recent dinner between friends we couldn’t help but notice the restaurant was empty at a time of year it would normally be full of visitors enjoying our beautiful region,” Ms Kimber said.

“We spoke with the owner who said the bushfires were having a significant impact on all the businesses in the area who rely on the tourism trade.

“The group of friends decided to send out an invite to locals and fill a restaurant.

“We had a terrific response last Wednesday night with 43 people coming together for delicious food, laughter and a fine night out in Lakes Entrance.

“We have decided to continue doing this every fortnight and hope to attract more locals to join us for our next night out at the Ferryman’s Café in Lakes Entrance.

“We encourage locals to come along and inject some life back into our economy.

“To add to our next event the Joe Cool Band has kindly offered to play some tunes.

“Whilst we are starting in Lakes Entrance, we plan to visit other towns in the region, such as Mallacoota, when it is safe to do so,” Ms Kimber said.
