Lakes Entrance 15-year-old, Renae Jones, has been competitively shooting for the past two years, following her sister, Olympian, Aislin.
Aislin was the youngest woman to ever win the national woman’s skeet championship in 2016 and now Renae is following in her footsteps.
Renae recently returned from competing in the World Junior Championships in Italy where she finished 10th in the Junior World Cup her first international championship.
Renae, a trap shooter, has to travel to Frankston to practice trap shooting, where there is an Olympic trap training facility.
Bob Yeates, of East Gippsland Sports Foundation, recently presented Renae with a substantial cheque to assist her with her sporting endeavours.
As well as being recognised by the foundation, Renae also receives a gold pass from the East Gippsland Shire to use its gym, pool and exercise facilities.
Bob said it was great to have the support of the shire in this way for local aspiring junior athletes as the State and Federal governments give next to nothing in assistance to junior regional athletes, disadvantaging them over metropolitan athletes in their quest to be their best.
