Lakes Entrance Events is planning a celebration for Lunar New Year in 2020, and needs your help.
The local group is inviting members of the general public to a meeting this Sunday to make plans for the celebration on January 25, 2020.
The meeting will be held at the East Gippsland Shire Council offices on Palmers Road, in the Cunninghame Room, between 4.30pm and 5.30pm this Sunday.
Lunar New Year is a Chinese celebration of traditional New Year.
Lakes Entrance Events secretary, Cheryl Wyllie, said the planned celebration will form part of a two-day event which includes Australia Day, if enough interest is shown.
“We organise the New Year fireworks, twilight markets and Australia Day events, so we thought this was an opportunity for us to host a multicultural event,” Cheryl said.
“We want to get some feedback to see whether or not it is appropriate or if people have ideas.
“We want to create a good local event to include the Asian members of our community and make it authentic. We have a number of Asian visitors over summer and lots within the community.
“If people want to get involved or have ideas on how the event could work, we’d like to know, we want to get a feeling from the local community.”
