The Victorian State Track and Field Championships were held over the past two weekends at Melbourne’ s Lakeside Stadium and following up from a successful State Country Championships, Lakes Entrance’s Jake Perrett once again had an outstanding competition.
Jake again competed as a 12year-old in the under 16 para competition.
This meant he had to throw heavier weights and be compared to faster times to obtain his scores following the para MDS table to gain a percentage score.
Jake won gold and State Champion title in para under 16 shot put and discus.
He also walked away with bronze in the 100 metre and 200m sprints.
Jake has qualified for the Australian Championships but on advice from coaches and Athletics Australia, due to his age he will not compete this year, but will be training hard and enter the national and international scene in the 2019/2020 athletics season.
Jake has been lucky to be mentored by Paralympic gold medalist and world champion, Richard Coleman.
He is also a member of Wellington Athletics Club and coached by Dennis Huffer and supported at competitions by Australian number one para shot putter, Marty Jackson.
Jake recently finished primary school and in November he competed in the School Sport Australia National Track and Field Championships, held at Lakeside Stadium
Jake competed strongly, breaking three national T46 records in 100 metre, 200 metre sprints and long jump.
The 100m and 200m records had been standing for 15 years, previously held by Australian Paralympian, Mitchell Gourley.
Jake also anchored the 4x100m relay team to a national silver medal.
