Seventeen-year-old Elizabeth Gray, a highly versatile and accomplished student at the Jan Pianta School of Dance (JPSD), reached a major career milestone after securing a prestigious international offer from the world-renowned Joffrey Ballet School.
The achievement capped off an exceptionally demanding day of dance, which saw Elizabeth tackle two major events back-to-back.
Her morning began with an intensive two-and-a-half-hour senior masterclass- including extensive pointe work – in preparation for her upcoming Advanced 2 Classical Ballet examination.
The session was conducted by guest examiner and Victorian College of the Arts Secondary School (VCASS) teacher Anne Butler.
Immediately following the masterclass, Elizabeth traveled to the Victorian Dance Festival to participate in a selective audition workshop hosted by scouts from the US-based Joffrey Ballet School.
The audition proved a complete success, with Elizabeth receiving a formal acceptance letter to join the institution’s highly competitive international summer program.
Summer intensives are familiar territory for the dedicated dancer, who previously attended elite summer schools at Melbourne University through Cecchetti Ballet Australia.
With Joffrey Ballet School operating campuses in both the United States and Italy, Elizabeth now faces an enviable decision on where to take her training.
As a fluent Italian speaker, a European stint holds particular appeal — especially given the deep Italian heritage and stylistic influences of the Cecchetti ballet method she studies.
Principal Jan Pianta praised Elizabeth’s drive and dedication following the announcement.
“Elizabeth is a highly motivated dancer who has experienced so much during her studies with us, and everyone at JPSD wishes her the absolute best as she plans her next steps,” Ms Pianta said.
Elizabeth becomes only the second dancer in JPSD’s history to earn an invitation of this caliber.
