Local combination Hayden and Bradley Lancaster finished runners-up in the Gippsland Bowls Region state pairs event.

Round nine of the Gippsland Bowls Region premier weekend pennant competition saw minimal changes to the composition of the ladder.

Top of the table Lakes Entrance was a 21-shot winner over the fourth-placed Cockies at the Lindenow Bowling Club, claiming two of the three rinks.

Stephen Smith, Jim Northe, Kevin Brown and Bradley Lancaster opened up a huge early advantage on the way to a 28-17 victory.

Eric Spence, Margaret Brandhoj, Darren Martin and Joanne Martin played consistently all afternoon on the way to their 22-11 win.

For the second consecutive week, both division one sides were victorious and now occupy the top two spots on the ladder.

Top rung Lakes Entrance 2 clean swept Howitt Park at home 82-41.

The stars of the show were Mike McKay, Ray Ricca, Clement Hochkins and Harley Johnson, victors 36-9.

They were well supported by Michael Bratt, Jeffrey Wilson, Johannes Kool, Barry Roberts (22-14) and Boyd McPhee, Kevin Watson, Kenneth Melville and Wallace Mason (24-18), who continued on where they left off last week.

Lakes Entrance 3 won the battle for second spot with Orbost, victorious at home 59-55 in a thriller, despite winning just one rink.

Ian Morris, Adrian Culph, Tom Rowe and Sharon Hall again led the way, successful 24-13.

In division two, the match of the round was the clash between ladder leader Lakes Entrance 4 and second-placed Paynesville. It ended in a 38-38 draw at the Paynesville Bowling Club.

Only one shot separated either rink, with the winning team for Lakes 4 being Ryan Dobson, Christine Piatek, Peter Alves-Veira and Tony Spink 20-19.

Third ranked Lakes 5 was a disappointing loser to Bairnsdale 50-32 at the Bairnsdale Bowling Club.

Lakes Entrance 6 was the winner in division three in its away fixture against Lindenow, 48-42.

The victory was set up by the effort of Kerrie Darby, Margaret Simpson, Mervyn Pratt and Rhonda O’Neill, who etched out a 28-21 rink win.
