“B” grade falls short

by Jenny Rooks

in Sport

Lakes Entrance was outpointed by Meerlieu in round nine of Bairnsdale Cricket Association “B” grade action at the Lakeside Oval.

The Tussocks won the toss and batted, amassing a sensational 9/247 from their 40 overs, propelled by a century from Rohan Giblett.

His innings of 102 came from just 83 balls and contained 13 boundaries.

They got other significant contributions from Samson Casement (50), Kaden Hicks (24) and Beau Nation (41).

The leading wicket taker for the Seagulls was Sean Reid with 3/38, while skipper Brett Boyd took 2/38.

In reply and short on numbers, Lakes Entrance was bowled out for just 65 inside 13 overs with Reid capping off a good game personally with 20 not out.

The Seagulls will be hoping for an influx of players and some better luck when they play West Bairnsdale this week at Bairnsdale City Oval.

It was a great week for the Seagulls in under 13 cricket, with both sides scoring wins last Friday night.

The Maroon side won the toss and batted at St Brendan’s, putting up an outstanding performance finishing on 0/97 off their 20 overs.

Oliver Mongan top scored with 13, Lucas Walker made 12 and Declan Bills looked good making nine.

The coaching staff was delighted to see no wickets fall in an exciting effort, showcasing that hard work is beginning to pay off.

In reply Buchan finished on 3/69, with the Maroons’ excellent fielding seeing three run outs occur in the

run chase.

The White side was almost as impressive. Batting first at Bairnsdale Primary School they made 4/92 from their 20 overs, led by 12 runs each from Jesse Downing and Ben Calleja, and nine each from Kade Watson and

Levi Poynton.

In reply, they restricted the young Tussocks to 3/72, with Poynton capping off a good game taking 1/0.

This week will see the two Lakes Entrance sides clash on Friday night from 5pm at the Lakeside Oval.
