Defending champion Lakes Entrance continues to lead a congested Gippsland Bowls Region midweek pennant ladder after six rounds, with only nine premiership points splitting the top six sides.
Teams were delighted to get back out on the greens after last week’s wash out, with Lakes and Sale playing a thriller at the Sale Bowling Club, the scores unable to be split after 63 ends, tied at 64-64.
Sale got the majority of the points (eight) and moved to third place on the ladder, Lakes’ share enough to hold top spot on percentage from an emerging Metung.
The only winners for Lakes were Wallace Mason, Jack Light, Bill Rowley and Kevin Brown, who looked in trouble early but were strong on the way home, winning six of the final seven ends in their 27-17 success.
In division two, Lakes Entrance 2 maintained its unbeaten season with a 57-45 win at home over Bairnsdale 3.
David Hocking, Jacinta Wilson, Peter Spark and Samuel Berlingeri led the way, easy 23-14 winners, well supported by Lynton Rathjen, Stanley Short, Rob Norder and Sharon Hall, who prevailed 18-14.
Despite losing (57-48) to Howitt Park in an away game, Lakes Entrance 3 still holds third place on the ladder, but only just, with Paynesville breathing down its neck.
Julie Rowe, Robert Wilson, William Gilbert and Peter Howie, the only successful rink, 22-15.
In division three, top-placed Lakes 4 withstood the challenge of Howitt Park in Bairnsdale, winning 37-33 in a tight contest.
The big win (25-12) of Ian Gray, Suzanne Light, Stephen Adams and Ross Irvine was enough to ensure victory.
Lakes 5 is still chasing its first win of the campaign, going down 49-31 at home to Paynesville.
