A public meeting was held in Nowa Nowa on Tuesday, October 28, to explore options for a proposed reticulated sewerage scheme for the township.
The project, led by the Nowa Nowa Development Group, aims to address the town’s long-term wastewater management needs and provide a modern, sustainable system for residents and businesses.
Planning, design and engineering work is being carried out by A.R.U.P., an internationally experienced firm, alongside senior project managers from Australian Business Volunteers (A.B.V.).
Attendees at the meeting were presented with a comprehensive body of planning work, which was further discussed and refined through workshop sessions. A draft proposal is expected to be developed in the coming months.
East Gippsland Water was also well represented at the meeting, with Manager of Strategy and Innovation, Elaine Mowat, and Land Development Officer, Pauline Buchanan, in attendance to offer advice and technical insight.
Following the meeting, participants travelled to Bemm River to inspect East Gippsland Water’s sewerage scheme, which serves a community of comparable size to Nowa Nowa. The field trip provided a practical example of how a similar system could meet the local needs and environmental requirements of Nowa Nowa.
The proposed scheme is seen as an important step toward improving public health and environmental outcomes for the growing township.
