Community front and centre

East Gippsland Shire Council has formally adopted its 2024–25 Annual Report, highlighting a year of service delivery, advocacy and investment for the region.

The Annual Report was unanimously adopted at its meeting on Tuesday, October 21, and outlines council’s performance against its Council Plan objectives, financial statements and achievements across the past financial year.

Mayor Cr John White said the report demonstrates council’s commitment to putting the community at the core of all its decisions.

“Community matters – and it’s at the heart of everything we do. This commitment is reflected throughout our Annual Report and in the services we’ve delivered across the past year,” Cr White said.

“The report acknowledges the work of the previous Council, whose leadership and commitment to long-term planning has helped lay the groundwork for the term ahead.”

The 2024–25 period marked the formal conclusion of bushfire recovery funding following the 2019–20 Black Summer

Bushfires, with council transitioning from recovery to a focus on resilience and long-term community wellbeing.

Council also continued to respond to cost-of-living and housing pressures while maintaining its focus on financial sustainability, advocacy for fairer funding, and the delivery of critical infrastructure and services.

Chief executive officer Fiona Weigall said the Annual Report reflects both the challenges and achievements of the year.

“Rising costs, weather events and ongoing housing challenges have tested our community, yet through collaboration and innovation we have continued to deliver,” Ms Weigall said.

“We are strengthening our project planning and delivery to ensure we meet our commitments and continue to build a more connected, inclusive and resilient East Gippsland.”

The 2024–25 Annual Report is available to view on council’s website.
