The forests of East Gippsland will roar back to life with 100 classic rally cars as the 2025 Alpine Rally of East Gippsland returns to Lakes Entrance from November 28–30.
Based in Lakes Entrance since 2003, the rally is one of Australia’s largest competitive car events, attracting competitors from across the country and overseas. With origins dating back to 1921, the event injects millions of dollars into the local economy and draws high demand for accommodation in the area.
Event director Troy Bennett said keeping the rally in East Gippsland was essential.
“You have fantastic infrastructure, amazing forest roads, brilliant community support, and all set against the stunning backdrop of the Lakes. You couldn’t run it anywhere else,” he said.
East Gippsland Shire mayor, Cr John White, added: “The Alpine Rally showcases the very best of our region and gives a welcome boost to our local economy, with visitors enjoying our cafes, accommodation and towns. It’s also a fantastic chance for locals to experience world-class motorsport up close.”
The rally begins with a ceremonial start at the Lakes Entrance Foreshore Reserve on Friday, November 28, before competitors head into the forests. Saturday’s stages run around Orbost, Sunday around Nowa Nowa, and the event concludes with a ceremonial finish back at the Lakes Entrance foreshore from 3pm.
