Willung youngster Florence White has proven that with perseverance and commitment, anyone can realise their ambitions, regardless of where they
come from.
At just 11 years old, White claimed the title of 2025 Pony Club Australia National Junior Tetrathlon Championship.
The event is a demanding competition comprising four disciplines: swimming (100 metres), running (one kilometre), laser shooting and horse riding (showjumping and cross country).
The competition is similar to the Olympic pentathlon but with one less event, serving as a feeder into the sport of Modern Pentathlon.
White was a key member of the Victorian team, which secured third place overall in the championships which were held at Werribee Park National Equestrian Centre.
As the Victorian team featured girls from across the state, White spend most of her time training for the event on her own.
Her swimming preparation was completed with teammates at Traralgon Swimming Club, while her mother Candy, a physical education teacher at Yarram Secondary College, assisted with her running.
White practised the precision target shooting component in her lounge room, and honed her showjumping and cross-country skills with her horse ‘Kipper’ at the Toongabbie Pony Club and in the paddock at home.
White’s dedication and determination have yielded outstanding results, showing that hard work pays off.
