Lakes Entrance sits second on the Gippsland Bowls region weekend pennant premier league ladder, unbeaten after three rounds, but only just, coming back from Maffra narrow 61-59 winners last Saturday.
Lakes took two of three rinks, which were all close and super competitive in a hard-fought victory, which had both sides digging deep in the final stages.
The biggest margin was achieved by Lakes’ Bradley Lancaster, Kevin Brown, Jim Northe and Kevin Dowie, 24-19.
It was almost negated by Maffra’s Grant Smith, John Marshall, Lyal and Michael Roberts, whose three shots on the final end ensured a 23-19 win.
The final rink was won by the Lakes Entrance combination of Ray Ricca, Daffy Rawlings, Wayne Jones and Brendan Addison on the final end, 18-17, after they picked up two match-winning shots in a thrilling finale.
It was a great result for Lakes Entrance in division one, with victories to both teams for the first time on the same day for the campaign.
Unbeaten ladder leader, Lakes Entrance 2, clean swept Bairnsdale 2 at home, 60-38.
Solid winning efforts came from Mike McKay, Boyd McPhee, Harley Johnson, Clement Hochkins (20-11), Michael Bratt, Jeffrey Wilson, Johannes Kool, Barry Roberts (19-10) and Wayne Denning, Kevin Watson, Jack Light and Wallace Mason (21-17).
But the story was Lakes Entrance 3, victorious for the first time for the season, returning from Howitt Park 63-53 winners, despite only winning the one rink.
The efforts of Ian Morris, Adrian Culph, Tom Rowe and Sharon Hall, winners 28-7, was enough to ensure overall victory, which will be great for morale going forward.
Mixed results came in division two with good news for Lakes Entrance 5, who sit on the top of the ladder, victorious at home easily over Lindenow 50-29.
Sharron Kavanagh, Stephen Adams, Michael Buttifant and Ron McKay were again prominent winning 22-18, well backed up by Ernie Smith, Margo Short, Jeanette Rowley and Kenneth Melville, who prevailed with ease, 28-11.
Lakes Entrance 4 ventured to Eagle Point, but were no match for Bairnsdale Golf, who won emphatically 56-27.
Another disappointing result came for Lakes Entrance in division three, also coming back from Eagle Park pointless, defeated but not disgraced, 46-35.
