Toorloo Arm Fire Brigade is holding a Get Fire Ready Weekend on October 4 and 5 and welcomes all to the station between 10am and 3pm.
“It will be an information day for fire preparedness so come along and have a chat with our members and pick up practical tips to keep your property safe this fire season,” Toorloo Fire Brigade captain Melissa Zagami said.
“Spring is here, and after a dry winter across parts of our region, it is shaping up to be an early fire season. While the grass may still look green in places, soil moisture is at record lows, meaning fuels could dry out quickly.”
On your visit to the Toorloo Arm Fire Station you can look forward to Local Fire Risk and Planning, which includes a display of local maps with tailored discussions on fire risk, LIMP Plans and emergency procedures; Emergency Apps – Guidance on downloading and navigating the VicEmergency app and other useful tools; Property Preparedness – Expert tips for planning and preparing your property, with brochures and take-home resources; Family planning – CFA resources, interactive safety activities, and kids’ educational materials; Behind the Scenes – Station tours, a look at, and how we prepare for the fire what happens when we turn out to a call, and how we prepare for the Fire Danger Period; Truck time – See how our fire trucks operate and learn: Will we fit? Is your property prepared and safe for us to enter if we need to respond?
There will also be a sausage sizzle at lunchtime with the opportunity to meet your local brigade members and share in the community.
“Everyone is welcome to come along, bring the kids and take home practical knowledge and resources to help keep you, your family and your property safe this fire season. Our station is also open on Wednesday evenings from 7pm during training. Feel free to drop in, say hello and grab the resources you need to get prepared,” Melissa said.
