Lakes Entrance scored its second win of the season in the East Gippsland Football Netball League reserves competition last Saturday, outplaying arch rival Orbost Snowy Rovers at the the Lakeside Oval.
The victory sees the Seagulls move up a place on the ladder to sixth, still a game adrift of Lindenow who moved to fourth at the expense of the Blues, who dropped to fifth on percentage.
In a low-scoring contest the Seagulls found the lead in the second term after scoring the quarter’s only major, opening up a five-point half
time buffer.
Although wasteful at times in front of goal, they strengthened that advantage to 13 points at the three quarter time break off the back
of a hard-fought two-goal to one stanza.
In a tough final term they lengthened the gap to 18 points as the points accumulated in their advantage.
Finn Somerville played his best game for the club since returning kicking two goals and was joined in the best by Luke Reggardo, Kaleb Day, Angus Stevens, Charlie Goold and Bailey Brown.
As the senior side has strengthened in recent weeks, it has created some much-needed depth for Steve Cole and his reserves side, who look set for a strong finish to the season.
Lakes Entrance won the clash of the titans in the thirds, maintaining their unbeaten record, but only just, hanging on to beat Orbost by just two points, the Blues dropping to third after the defeat.
The Seagulls impressed in the first term kicking three unanswered goals, as players like Charlie Graham (five goals) and Xavier Pepper (two) asserted their authority on the hard fought contest.
Not to be denied, the Blues fought back with three goals to one in the second term narrowing the margin to just two points at half time.
The sides traded goals in a low scoring and defensively dominated second half, as the Seagulls maintained the two-point margin at three quarter and full time, in an epic game, featuring some
of the regions better under
18 players.
Among the best for Lakes Entrance were Baxter and Harrison Bennett, Charlie and Thomas Graham, Bill Prior and Harper Davis.
Lakes Entrance will take on Boisdale Briagolong
this week at the Cabbage Patch, hoping to emulate
last week’s three football wins for the day, the first time for the season.
