After organising Carols on the Green last December, Metung Lions Club has been busy with fundraising ventures and many other activities.

The club recently welcomed a new member to the club, Ann Bell, and had a young student Simon Lynch attending the dinner business meetings.

Club members also organised two Easter Bunny appearances in Metung during the school holidays.

The Club has thanked the Metung community for its support of the Cans and Bottle Collection 10 cent refund project.

The Lions commenced the collection of cans and bottles at the start of 2024 with the goal of raising $10,000 in the first year. As at the end of January, 13 months later, the club has exceeded its goal and have now collected $16,100. More than 161,000 eligible containers have been recycled and removed

from land fill.

The Metung Lions also thanked Metung Country Club, Metung RSL, Metung Yacht Club, Metung Waters, The Bakery, Cafe Chez Joes, Effloresce, Aroma Metung, Metung Hotel, Metung Villas, St John’s Church and Kings View for their support.

Metung Lions is donating 70 per cent of the funds raised to Metung CFA as a donation towards the new fire station at Metung, who are appreciative of everyone’s support. The balance of funds raised assists Lions in ongoing support of community activities

within the area.

The Lions has public collection sites located at the Lions Club shed, the CFA site on Hardies Road, St John’s Church, 1 Allan Street, Tambo Bluff.

Metung Lions Club thanks their members, CFA members and others from the community who volunteer their time each week to assist in the ongoing collection and sorting within this program, and those that donate 10 cent refundable items on an ongoing basis.

Some important housekeeping rules are no general rubbish, wine and spirit bottles are not eligible, place then in your normal Shire recycle bin, no milk containers, no household food and pet food cans. If it does not have the 10c label on the item, it cannot be returned under the program

This year, the club is hoping they can again exceed their goals. With everyone’s support they are confident of another very

successful year.
