Fishing remains strong

The fishing in the local area continues to impress, locals and visitors.

Lakes Entrance – Dusky flathead are plentiful, using, swim bait, soft plastics and hardbody lures. Bream are biting on small diving bodies and fresh baits. Fraser and Rigby Islands have flathead, and whiting biting on pilchards and local prawn. Kingfish are biting on, local prawns, pippies, and soft lures. Prawns can be found in the shallower sections of the lake system. Offshore has seen the landing of school shark, gummy, snapper and flathead. Eastern Beach and Lake Bunga for salmon with pilchards and squid.

Lake Tyers – The entrance is finally open with tailor and salmon biting well on metal lures. Over on the surf beaches, salmon are being landed using pilchards and squid.

Metung – You will find trevally, gurnard, and flathead with large swim bait plastics and topwater hardbodies, shrimp and local prawn. There are still plenty of bream to be had, taking fresh prawn, crab and mussels. Trevally and pinkies are also around the Boardwalk. Prawns are still around.

ON VACATION: Gippsland Lakes Fishing Club members Andrew and Jammie Vella went offshore from Welshpool last week, with young Jamie landing his first bluefin tuna. (PS)
OFFSHORE: Ryan Thompson last week weighed in this impressive 173 kilogram Thresher. (PS)
LAKE TYERS : Neil Simpson had them on the bite over the long weekend. (PS)
OFF SHORE: John Portelli was delighted with his 61 kilogram swordfish he landed last week. (PS)
