Lakes Entrance Croquet Club recently played its club’s singles championship with the Rhonda Smith winning “A” grade.
The matches were played over two days, the first in very pleasant conditions, while the final day served up strong winds.
A strong field of 14 members played in two sections, nine players in “A” grade and the remaining five in “B” grade.
The format for this event was level play and there were some extremely close matches which made for excellent viewing for spectators.
Smith took out the “A” grade championship and Mary Murrell “B” grade, with Ivana Thomson and Helen Rasmussen the respective runners-up.
Smith was the outright winner in “A” grade with six wins and one loss while two players were equal on five wins and two losses, however, Thomson narrowly took out runner-up from Alan Drayton by four hoops.
Murrell claimed the “B” grade title with four wins from Rasmussen who had three wins and one loss.
Lynette Cann was given an encouragement award for finishing third in her first club competitive event.
Unfortunately John Mitchell could not defend his title for 2025 owing to a back injury during his first game.
Players from Lakes Entrance and Orbost clubs will compete for the Chris Eaton Memorial Challenge in the coming weeks.
Eaton was an associate member of the Lakes Entrance Croquet Club who suffered and passed away with motor neurone disease (MND).
The annual memorial challenge is held each year to raise funds for the MND research.
