Lakes Entrance has continued its dominance of the Gippsland Bowls Region midweek superleague competition outclassing Sale in last week’s grand final at the Bairnsdale Bowling Club.
Beaten only once in season 2024/25, Lakes scored an impressive clean sweep over Sale 63-39, making it four consecutive titles in sensational style.
Mike McKay, Jim Northe, Jenny and Kevin Dowie led the way with a 28-15 victory, well supported by Maurice Carroll, Margaret Brandhoj, Bill Rowley, Joanne Martin (18-12), and Michael Bratt, Eric Spence, Wallace Mason and Kevin Brown (17-12).
Martin matched the superleague weekend pennant victory of husband, Darren, who was part of the Paynesville line up that got redemption, knocking off Bairnsdale to snare this year’s pennant in style at Heyfield last week.
Lakes Entrance will represent the region at Moama in the state championship event.
There was disappointment in division three with Yarram defeating the previously unbeaten Lakes Entrance 4, 38-33.
The win was set up by Yarram’s Nick Scarlett, Wendy Helms, Allan Watts and David Gunton who claimed the huge scalp of Lakes’ Ian Gray, Charlie Abela, Carol and John Hurren 19-11.
The Lakes quartet had only been conquered once in the season prior, in the final home and away fixture.
Dianne Scott, Frank Detering, Heather Todd and John Kimberley won their rink for Lakes’ 22-19, but it was insufficient to achieve victory.
