Another busy week of sailing at the Metung Yacht Club was highlighted by first heat of the time honoured PB Lawrence Trophy series.
Leading Edge with Will Crooke, Tony Doolan and Fred Haes (helm) onboard made a clean sweep in last Saturday’s initial heat of the three race series.
The race was contested on course eight in Bancroft Bay, consisting of three windward/leeward legs between Shaving Point and Chinamans Creek.
Wind was light south west, up to five knots, with event contested by four Etchells in division one and four mixed Keelboats in division two.
Soon after the start New Wave II retired, with Leading Edge crossing the line first, followed by Come Monday and Elusive with Beagle sailing across in fourth.
Last week’s twilight sailing event was taken out by New Wave II, with Les Tuckey, Derek Russell and Tuna Smith (helm) onboard.
The race was contested by 11 yachts, with Compass Rose crossing in second and Lolita sailing into third place.
The race was contested in Bancroft Bay, in wind up to five knots, with twilight racing coordinator Bill Newcomen reporting that is the biggest twilight racing muster of the season.
There were 41 people booked for the barbecue social dinner after sailing, which is also a seasonal record.
