The yellow terry towelling hats were on display last weekend at Metung Yacht Club (MYC), in honour of Herbert and Dorothy Haes, with the staging of the inaugural race and awarding of a memorial trophy named in their honour.
A field of 10 boats, three etchells and seven keelboats, entered the race, which was conducted on Bancroft Bay.
Congratulations at the end of the race went to the team aboard Elusive AUS1360 – Jeff Rose, Wayne Smith and Rob Conn – who received the Herbert and Dorothy Haes Memorial Trophy from MYC member Fred Haes, his siblings and extended family.
The yellow terry towelling hat was a signature of Herbert Haes, a past commodore of Metung Yacht Club.
Sailing into second place was Leading Edge AUS1443, with Fred Haes at the helm and crewed by Tony Doolan, Blake Smith and Angus Crooke.
Third place was taken out by Krishna ME4, helmed by Gus Kinnear and crewed by Andrew Russell, Teddy Bull and Mathew Dalziel.
