Bairnsdale Cricket Association action will resume this Saturday with Lakes Entrance making the trip east to lock horns with arch rival Orbost in round nine action.
The Seagulls have been the competition’s big improver in 2024/25, sitting pretty in second place on the ladder with seven wins and just one loss.
Lakes’ only defeat was at the hands of ladder leader Lindenow South Glenaladale who outclassed them in round six.
Overseas imports Josh Sackfield, Jack Timms and Sam Kincaid have led the way for the Seagulls, while young wicket keeper/batsman Liam Allen continues to impress.
Kaleb Day impressed in the run into Christmas and he could become a key player with both bat and ball in the second half of the season, while Phani Kumar is great to watch and capable of racking up a big score.
Orbost will be keen to bounce back after a sub par performance against St Mary’s Nagle in the match prior to the Christmas break, but will be mindful of how dangerous Lakes Entrance can be if it gets on a roll, like it did in round five when the two sides met, making 358 and bowling the Blues out for just 124, almost pulling off an outright win with stumps drawn at 6/100.
That performance was an aberration, with the
matches between the two sides generally close regardless of ladder positions.
Classy all rounder Luke Endley led the way the day the Blues registered their only win of the season, knocking off ladder leading Bulls in round seven, but he will need to get plenty of support from the likes of skipper Curtley Farley and hard hitting opener Jayden Price if the Blues are to test the confident Seagulls.
In “B” grade Lakes will host Bruthen at the Lakeside Oval.
The under 13s are in recision for the Christmas holidays, with the next match on January 31 when Lakes Entrance White and Maroon will go head-to-head at St Brendans.
