The greens were full last Thursday night at the Lakes Entrance Bowling Club as 56 young bowlers from the Lakes Entrance and Toorloo Arm primary schools were zeroing in on the jack.
It was the first time the two schools have clashed, with the participants playing two-bowl triples, spread over 10 rinks.
After a number of weeks training and practice, students were ready for some real competition. With the weather perfect and members of Lakes Entrance Bowls Club supporting and scoring the games, competition was intense.
Many students relished the idea of a new sport and standards were high, the Lakes Entrance Bowling Club keen to encourage more young members.
Scores across the board were very close but Toorloo Arm was able to just get the win 27-23.
Early in 2025, the students will begin training up for the state finals in March.
Sports teacher at Toorloo Arm, Barb Plant, gave a glowing report of the day.
“The students had a great time and we will certainly be back for more,” Ms Plant said.
Junior coordinator at Lakes Bowls Club, Boyd McPhee, said student behaviour was outstanding and lots of fun was had by
all.
Former local bowler, Barrie Lester, who has become one of the leading bowlers in the world, will be visiting the club on December 19 at 2.30pm and any juniors who wish to meet and have a bowl with him are encouraged to head along.
