The Metung Lions Club has been fundraising this year by initiating the “Return It” program for licensed can and bottle recycling.

The Lions members have worked diligently to set up this project which started in January 2024 and has progressed significantly with the major support of the Metung and Tambo Bluff communities, the Metung RSL, Metung Country Club and Metung Yacht Club contributing to the cause.

Additional contributions from commercial businesses and accommodation houses in Metung have also greatly assisted.

It is a complete community project involvement.

At the start of the year the Lions had a goal of 100,000 ($10,000) collectable items for the year.

Incredibly this was achieved at the end of October. They believe they will reach $13,000 by the end of the year.

The Metung Fire Brigade have been selected to be the recipients of this amazing initiative.

The funds are being utilised to assist them with financing the future establishment of their much-needed new fire station.

Seventy per cent of the funds will go to the Metung Fire Brigade and the remaining 30 per cent will be retained to enable the Lions to provide for their other community work.

The Metung Fire Brigade thanked the Lions Club for their generous and unending support.
