Defending champion, Lakes Entrance moved to the top of the Gippsland Bowls Region midweek premier division bowls ladder, with a thrilling 60-59 win over Sale at the Lakes Entrance Bowling Club last week.
Nothing separated the rinks throughout the contest, with scores that close, two of the three rinks ended in draws.
The effort of Michael Bratt, Eric Spence, Wallace Mason and Kevin Brown to win, 20-19, the pivotal advantage which decided the contest, which went right down to the final end of the day.
Mike McKay, Julie Simpson, Jenny Dowie, Jim Northe (21-21) and Maurice Carroll, Margaret Brandhoj, Bill Rowley and Joanne Martin (19-19) were all involved in tense draws.
It as a disastrous day in division two for Lakes Entrance, with both sides being beaten in clean sweeps, but in a positive they still maintained their present positions on the ladder.
Lakes 2 were defeated at home by archrival, Orbost, 62-40, and remain in fifth spot, whilst Paynesville eclipsed the sixth placed, Lakes 3, 77-50.
In division three, the two Lakes Entrance sides went head-to-head, with second ranked Lakes 4 coming out on top in a high-quality encounter, 38-33, over a gallant Lakes 5, who sit in fifth place on the table.
Ian Gray, Robert Wilson, Carol and John Hurren continued their unbeaten season run with a 21-13 victory for Lakes 4, a key factor in the victory, while Robyn Auscote, Margo Short, Sandra Hudson and Ernie Smith won the other rink for Lakes 5, 20-17.
