Weekend pennant bowls returned last weekend with all Lakes Entrance teams in action. PICTURED: Peter Taylor in action during Lakes Entrance 4's division two loss to Paynesville.

Both Lakes Entrance sides are undefeated after round one of the Gippsland Bowls Region Superleague, but only just with Lakes Entrance 1 escaping with a draw against Sale 1.

Lakes Entrance 2 opened the season at home and were much too good for a Heyfield side that contained plenty of big names, Lakes home 77-40 in an impressive start.

Mark Campbell, Kenneth Melville, Jeffrey Wilson and Glenn Barker leading the way, sensational victors, 35-12. Stephen Smith, Lynton Rathjen, Mark Elliott and Wallace Mason got home 21-13 and making it a clean sweep, Michael Bratt, Johannes Kool, Maurice Carroll and Harley Johnson were winners 21-14.

Lakes 1 was victorious in two of the rinks in its 63-63 draw with Sale, winners being Eric Spence, Jim Northe, Margaret Brandhoj, Joanne Martin (31-19) and Mike McKay, Barry Roberts, Bill Rowley and Kevin Brown (21-19). Martin’s inclusion from Paynesville, quickly paying dividends.

In division two, mixed results with Lakes Entrance 3 winners at Howitt Park, but Lakes Entrance 4 went down to Paynesville at home.

Lakes 3 was a 71-48 victor, among the winners were Stephen Adams, Bill Gilbert, Geoffrey Rawlings, Greg Bertram (27-11) and Joseph Hales, Alan Light, Bob Lucas and Samual Berlingeri (26-14).

The only winners for Lakes 4 in its 68-49 demise were Ernie Smith, Ian Morris, David Ramsay and Peter Taylor, 23-18.

In division three Lakes 6 defeated Lakes 5 by 10 shots, 41-31.

The rinks were split, with Lakes 5s Wim Pennings, Jeannette Rowley, Tony Spink and Robyn Auscote winners 20-15, but the big win of Kerrie Darby, Angelo Alonso, Viv Grumley and Christine Piatek (26-11) proved pivotal for Lakes 6.

THIS WEEK’S MATCHES

Division 1: Lakes Entrance 1 v Maffra; Howitt Park v Lakes Entrance 2.

Division 2: Lakes Entrance 3 v Bairnsdale 2; Lakes Entrance 4 bye.

Division 3: Lakes Entrance 5 v Paynesville; Bairnsdale 4A v Lakes Entrance 6.
