It was another quality week at the Lakes Entrance Golf Club as it gears up for its busiest week of the year, the hosting of the 2024 Spring Tournament, which sees golfers from all over Australia converge on Lakes Entrance hoping to play that special round.
Last Saturday the club foursomes’ championships were played with victory going to the well-credentialled combination of Brett Stokes and Dean Barelli, who had a sensational 77 off the stick.
Things looked a little tricky for the guys after beginning with a trio of sixes, but they knuckled down carving out a great round.
Sadly, they weren’t the talk of the clubhouse, that went to the pairing who took 18 shots to play the par three 11th hole.
Gary O’Neil and Terry Williams won the daily net event with 69.5, while Apola Weel continued her outstanding form taking the women’s event with 39 points.
Wednesday’s ladies’ event saw Fiona Haslam win “A” grade and the evergreen Nola McKenna “B” grade.
Another good field of 81 players contested last Thursday’s men’s stableford with the winners being Shane Sproule (“A” grade), Ivan Hamilton (“B” grade and overall) and Ian Stephens (“C” grade).
Other winners this week included Les Beckett, Don Haley (Ruthless and Toothless) and Lorna Tiziani (Young and the Rest of Us).
The schedule looks exciting with for the Spring Tournament, resulting in strong entries.
The mix of format throughout the week, sees Wednesday 4BBB, Thursday stableford, Friday ambrose, Saturday stroke and finishes on Sunday with a mixed and medley Canadian Foursomes.
