Lakes Entrance’s under 17 netballers stepped up their preparations for this week’s semi final against Boisdale Briagolong with a hard working final home and away season win over Wy Yung by nine goals.
The Seagulls were made to work hard for the victory which served as the perfect pre-finals test.
A tightly contested first quarter saw both teams fighting for possession, but Lakes put the foot down and came out with a steady hand with the midcourt, bringing the ball into the shooters effectively.
The Seagulls’ defensive pressure was at its best with all players contributing to successful turnovers which helped the Seagulls maintain a lead throughout.
Lakes will take that momentum into finals with a hard-fought 34-25 win over a tough side.
Best players were Lucy Carroll and Tayla Mills.
15 AND UNDER
Lakes’ 15 and under netball season came to an end with a good effort against the powerful Tigers.
The Seagulls started the game cool, calm and collected, producing some nice passages of play, but unfortunately the score didn’t reflect their hard work as the Tigers led by eight at quarter time.
Wy Yung applied pressure and was strong in defence and after a few fumbles and footwork by Lakes the Tigers were able to increase their lead to 16 at half time.
With a few changes in position, Tulli McCleod and Lilly Eiseman worked well together shooting while Taylah Alsop continued to attack and defend well in centre.
Wy Yung continued its accurate shooting, however Lakes didn’t give up in their final quarter for the season.
Tulli again showed her shooting form and Lily Jakins produced some turnovers in goal defence.
Final score saw Lakes go down 13 to Wy Yung 43.
Best players were Tulli McLeod and Haylee McKinnnon.
