It might be the cricket off season but the local clubs are beginning to announce their signings for the 2024/2025 season.
Meerlieu Cricket Club has been proactive, signing prolific Bruthen top order batter Jayanga Peiris.
The hard-hitting left hander butchered “A” reserve attacks last season, accumulating 709 runs at an impressive average of 54.54, with a highest score of 102.
Peiris is currently playing in the Melbourne winter competition and can’t wait for the summer Bairnsdale Cricket Association season to kick off.
Meerlieu recently confirmed that former Zimbabwe under 19 all-rounder, Connor Mitchell, had signed on for the 2024/25 season.
Mitchell had proudly represented Zimbabwe in 10 matches before moving to the UK, where he has enjoyed several successful seasons.
Paynesville will welcome Kingsholm Cricket Club bowling all-rounder, Luke Bond, who made his first XI debut for Kingsholm at just 14 and has become one of the club’s top 10 wicket-takers of all time.
The talented English seamer will bring his wealth of experience, hoping to strengthen the Gulls side this summer.
