Toorloo Arm Primary School got into the Olympic spirit last Wednesday by holding a mini Olympics complete with a Parade of Nations, a torch relay, the lighting of the cauldron and the reading of the Olympic Oath by grade six student Ollie Anderson.
Children then competed in six modified games including balloon tennis, indoor bowling and handball.
The senior students were responsible for getting their teams to the events and creating a sense of team throughout the busy morning. Team India won the day with China and Australia winning silver and bronze respectively.
Grade four student Rebecca Jones wrote immediately after the games.
“Today I had the mini Olympics at my school. I was on team South Korea,” Rebecca said.
“We played lots of different games. My favourite game was balloon tennis because you got to shoot the balloon at the other side. It was a great day, can we do it again, please?”
