Bairnsdale’s Prostate Support Group leader, Wayne Stagg, invited Alan White and his wife Fiona to address the support group last week in Bairnsdale.
Alan has been a champion of the prostate cancer awareness campaign throughout Victoria for more than a decade.
Alan was diagnosed with prostate cancer in his 50s and was put on active surveillance until at 60 he was diagnosed with aggressive prostate cancer.
He then had his prostate robotically removed.
Alan, now a resident of Sandringham after a life in Albury/Wodonga area, is the local convener of the Bayside/Kingston Prostate Cancer Support Group, ably assisted by his wife Fiona.
Alan has also been an ambassador for the Prostate Cancer Research Foundation for five years. He spoke about the “bins for blokes” campaign and the work and promotion of the Continence Foundation of Australia at the Bairnsdale meeting.
With intimate knowledge of his medical journey, Alan has written a book and created a website as a down to earth resource for prostate cancer sufferers and their spouses.
Impressed by Alan’s communication skills, Lakes Entrance Prostate Cancer Support Group representative, Moss Mahony, has invited Alan and Fiona to a future meeting in Lakes Entrance to address the Lakes Entrance support group.
