There was disappointment for Lakes Entrance in the reserves, losing a vital match to Lindenow in round 13 of the East Gippsland Football Netball League last Saturday at the Lakeside Oval.
The Seagulls began the day in fourth place, desperate to bank another four points and make every post a winner in their quest to play finals football in season 2024.
Unfortunately after succumbing to the resurgent Cats by 59 points they have dropped to sixth, trailing both fourth-placed Wy Yung and fifth-ranked Lindenow on percentage.
The Seagulls led at quarter time by a point, and trailed by just four points at the main break before being blown away by the Cats in the second half.
Lindenow kicked 10 goals to two in the second half to win in a canter.
Among the best for the Seagulls were Harry Reed, Andrew Hatch, Andrew Rimmer, Benjamin Purnell, Charlie Goold and Ben Crittenden.
In the third, the third-ranked Seagulls were pitted against the unbeaten Cats, with the distress signal activated early, the rampant Cats kicking six unanswered first term goals.
By three quarter time Lindenow had slotted 12 goals, with the Seagulls still yet to get on the board.
Lakes Entrance showed plenty of fight in the final term kicking five goals to three, but still went down by 56 points.
Vice captain Caleb O’Donnell finished with two goals for the Seagulls, whose better players were courageous half back Charlie Goold, Angus Stevens, O’Donnell, Kurt Grabham, Sam Ditchburn and Kaylib Wade.
