Lakes Entrance locals Owen Cupitt and Joe Clifford made a triumphant debuts at the Victorian Amateur Boxing League’s Amateur Fight Day on Saturday at the Lilydale Community Youth Club.
Both boxers were nervous as they took to the ring for the first time at competition level after doing plenty of work in the gym under the founder and head coach of Bairnsdale MMA, Steve Andrews who expressed his pride and optimism at their efforts.
“Both showed a lot of promise and I’m excited about what the future brings for them,” Andrews said.
The dedicated Andrews also serves as East Gippsland’s representative for the Victorian Amateur Boxing League and is keen for more people to get involved in martial arts and boxing at a local level.
“Bairnsdale MMA offers opportunities for people with no experience to train for fitness, develop skills, gain confidence, and compete at various levels if they that is what they desire or simply train for fun,” Andrews said.
