Marine Parade upgrade

by Lakes Post
29 June 2024
in Local News

A safer and more accessible Marine Parade in Lakes Entrance is being created by East Gippsland Shire Council, thanks to its new road and footpath project, which will extend about 1km east from the roundabout entry to Marine Parade.
Key improvements will include widening the road to allow the construction of on-road parallel parking bays, and the integration of road-calming measures – including raised pedestrian crossings – to ensure smoother and safer traffic flow.
The project will also see accessible foot-paths constructed along the residential side of Marine Parade. The 1.8m-wide footpaths will provide greater safety, access and convenience for residents and visitors to shops, cafes and supermarkets, as well as enhancing the look of the street.
Additional measures include upgraded drainage infrastructure.
“We’re grateful for the guidance provided by a local community project reference group, which informed the development of the detailed design and noted future development and reconstruction opportunities,” mayor Cr Tom Crook said.
“Council is about working with our communities to determine what they want and how we can achieve it. Projects such as this road and footpath upgrade are vital to helping our communities to thrive.”
“Council will continue to advocate for funding for further improvements that were identified by the local community, such as off-road parking and improvements to the foreshore area,” Cr Crook said.
The contract for construction was awarded to Cranes Asphalting and Bitumen Sealing, which commenced construction on Monday, June 24.
The project is funded by the Australian Government through its Infrastructure Investment Program ($1.2 million) and Council ($900,000).
