The long awaited project to provide a play area on the Lakes Entrance Foreshore with new play equipment and landscaping is now scheduled to begin construction in May 2024.
After two unsuccessful attempts to attract external contractors, the project will now be completed by East Gippsland Shire Council’s in-house work crews and is being scheduled outside the peak visitor season to minimise disruptions, however the delays have angered Federal MP, Darren Chester, who said it’s a blight on the local council.
Mr Chester said the continued delays in delivering projects like the Lakes Entrance foreshore park is making it frustrating for his office and local community groups to deal with the East Gippsland Shire Council.
“The time it takes to deliver projects once funding has been secured is a major problem because projects become more expensive as time passes,” Mr Chester said.
“There are a number of reasons for the delays including the turnover of staff which often results in multiple project managers for a single project over a period of months and years. Long delays in approvals from other agencies also adds to the constant delays.
