The Lake Tyers Stories of Influence event was a huge success on all levels.
The event is held annually and the topic for 2023 was Lake Tyers Aboriginal Trust football history which created a lot of interest, in particular the times when legendary footballers Les Wilkinson and Ronnie Edwards played and also the years that Lake Tyers/Nowa Nowa fielded teams in the Omeo District Football Netball League (ODFNL).
At last Friday night’s opening there was a large crowd who heard stories of the eras from journalist, Andrew Rule, whose father played with Ronnie Edwards, and Barry Switzer’s memories of the legends, particularly the day Ronnie kicked 43 goals in one match.
President of the ODFNL Ray Gallagher and son of Ronnie Edwards, Michael Edwards, spoke alongside event organiser, Helen Sheil, while film maker Malcolm McKinnon, who made the film Looking for a Game, returned to do interviews for some short historical clips.
