Rally cars invaded the district last weekend for the 2022 Snowy River Sprint, part of the Australian Tarmac Rally Championship.
Spectators were given the opportunity to see all the cars at the Central Hotel on the Lakes Entrance Esplanade from just after midday on Friday, as well Sunday for official trophy presentations.
For the first time, the event had a ceremonial start from Lakes Entrance Esplanade on Saturday morning, with all 56 crews and their cars on display. This was another great opportunity for spectators to head along, see the cars up close and speak to the crews.
The Australian Tarmac Rally series was rebranded and launched in May 2020, a company backed by tarmac rally enthusiasts who aim to produce value for money, top level tarmac rallies in and around the stunning Victorian Alpine and Gippsland regions. The events offering the ultimate tarmac rally experience for modern, classic cars and everything in between providing an exciting challenge for all crews.
Teams from all around Australia made the trek to East Gippsland to take on the infamous Buchan – Orbost Road, a challenging 40 kilometre stretch over two gruelling days. The 18 stage event covering more than 250 competitive kilometres, including a mammoth 37.5-kilometre stage on Sunday afternoon. Competitors endured fog and light rain, but also plenty of blue skies.
