Four years ago Simon Harvey, AKA Captain Australia, was diagnosed with head and neck cancer.
“I had a 40-60 per cent chance that chemo-radiation would beat the disease, and six months to live if it failed,” he said.
“I got lucky. But even when you survive cancer, you have to pay a horrible price, dealing with side effects and the threat of recurrence for the rest of your life. No child should have to endure that.”
This inspired Captain Australia’s ‘Big Walk’, in support of The Kids Cancer Project. He started his walk in Brisbane and hopes to reach Melbourne by March 19 while raising funds along the way.
“Your fundraising goes towards our mission to support bold science that has the greatest chance of clinical success to improve childhood cancer treatments,” he said.
