East Gippsland tourism businesses looking to expand their reach beyond domestic borders will have a dedicated opportunity this month, with peak industry bodies hosting an international market workshop right here in Bairnsdale.
Destination Gippsland, in partnership with Visit Victoria and Tourism Australia, will deliver the “Why International?” workshop on Wednesday, August 19, at Quest Bairnsdale.
Designed to help local businesses navigate and capitalise on the growing international travel sector, the three-and-a-half-hour session will provide practical guidance on engaging travel trade distribution partners, setting competitive rates and leveraging government and regional marketing channels.
Organisers are encouraging a wide cross-section of the local region’s visitor economy to attend, including hospitality venues, wineries, breweries, tour operators, attraction owners and accommodation providers.
Key focus areas for the workshop include:
– Understanding the growth potential and forecasts for the international visitor market.
– Adjusting rates and terms to maximise global trade exposure.
– Working effectively with Online Travel Agents (OTAs) for quick-win results.
– Partnering with Visit Victoria, Destination Gippsland, and Sydney Melbourne Touring to boost international visibility.
The session aims to equip regional operators with actionable insights to tap into high-yielding overseas travel markets as regional Victoria continues to build its global profile.
