There was plenty of excitement at a recent Lakes Entrance Girl Guides meeting as the girls learned campfire skills while working towards their Fire Badge.
Each Guide built and lit her own small campfire on a foil plate before toasting mini marshmallows over the flames. Along the way, they learned how to use fire safely, the importance of respecting campfires and how to stay safe around them.
The badge has also given the Guides valuable life skills, including first aid for burns and what to do if a fire occurs. Together they created a fire evacuation plan for their meeting venue, the U3A Hub in Lake Tyers Beach, and are now preparing fire plans for their own homes with their families.
To celebrate completing the badge, the term will finish with a traditional campfire where the Guides will gather to sing songs and celebrate everything they have learned.
