It was monthly medal week at the Lakes Entrance Golf Club, with Corry Schreuders and Di Gray claiming the top honours across the fields.
Last Saturday’s medley stroke event saw 89 players tee off, led home by “B” grade competitor Schreuders, whose stellar three-under-par round was enough to secure the monthly medal on a countback from “B” grade runner-up, Angus McKenzie.
Classy left-hander Jamie Coates took out “A” grade with a two-under-par round, a score matched by Bernie Hoppe who bagged the “D” grade honours. Coates carded the best gross score of the day with a well-compiled 77.
Sue Wilson claimed the ladies’ monthly pin with a one-under-par effort.
Last Wednesday, Gray clinched the ladies’ monthly medal and “B” grade title with a score of one-under-par, finishing two shots clear of runner-up Hayley Cotton. Clint Dostine took out “A” grade and the overall medley stroke event with a score of two-under-par.
Playing off a handicap of 42, Brett Smith shot the lights out in Thursday’s medley stableford event, winning “C” grade and the overall competition with a sensational 43 points.
Mitchell Naylor secured “A” grade with 39 points, while Wesley Coad was successful in “B” grade with an impressive 41 points. Tony Varone, Stephen Dinham and the in-form John Melrose were unlucky not to be among the winners after carding strong scores of 38 points and above.
In Tuesday’s ‘Young and the Rest of Us’ competition, Betty Martino continued her rich vein of recent form, winning by two shots over Karen Nicholas.
On the same day in the ‘Ruthless and Toothless’ event, Dallas Riseley was successful in “A” grade following a countback against Leslie Rodgers and Alan Taylor.
In “B” grade, John Anderson was a two-shot victor over Daryl Brassil and consistent performer Alan Radford.
Dave Hatt was the day’s putting winner with 13 putts, while Dave Lunan did not go home empty-handed, taking out the NAGA award.
