It was a great day for the Lakes Entrance footballers last Saturday, with the reserves and thirds scoring big wins over Stratford in round seven of the East Gippsland Football Netball League at the Lakeside Oval.
The third-placed under 17.5s started the day in style, beating the fourth-ranked Swans by 50 points.
The Seagulls kicked 11 unanswered goals in the first three quarters to put the game to bed early. To its credit, Stratford persisted and dominated the final term, kicking three unanswered goals of its own to add some much-needed respectability to the scoreboard.
Leroy Hayes kicked three goals in a best-on-ground performance, gaining quality assistance from Archer Connally and Zane Holley (two each), while Thomas Graham, Jeremy Rotheram and Mason Radley also impressed for the Seagulls.
In the reserves, the Seagulls ran out emphatic 117-point winners, restricting the Swans to just one goal for the match, which was kicked in the third quarter.
Lakes Entrance was consistent over four quarters, never taking its foot off the throttle and kicking six goals in the final term to maintain second place on the ladder — four points behind reigning premier, Boisdale Briagolong. The Seagulls have accumulated a staggering percentage of 442.99 per cent.
Noah Bottom was again pivotal up forward, kicking seven goals to remain on top of the competition goal-kicking with 44 majors. But he does have company, with the Bombers’ Luke Pratt kicking 17 against Paynesville to also move to 44.
Playing coach Ben Rotheram showed his class, chipping in with four goals, while when it came to best players, there were plenty to choose from, with very few players lowering their colours.
Brendan Bassett was again outstanding, most likely extending his lead in the best and fairest. He was well supported by Kurt Grabham, Bottom, Rydah Davy, Thomas Graham and Brayden Baade, who is playing some great football across half back.
Lakes Entrance will enjoy the competition bye this weekend, before heading away for the local derby against Orbost Snowy Rovers on June 13.
