Visitors to the East Gippsland Field Days are in for a soft and stylish treat this year, as one of Maffra’s premier alpaca producers, Merungle Alpacas brings a world-class range of fleece and garments to Site 24i.
Managing a herd of 140 alpacas just outside of Maffra is a full-time commitment focused on quality. The yearly clip is sent to Dynon Wools in Laverton North for expert classing, with the premium Australian alpaca wool eventually finding its way to high-end markets in Italy and China.
While the raw wool is a local success story, sourcing Australian-made finished garments remains a challenge. Aside from the iconic Humphrey Law alpaca socks, the search
for high-quality manufacturing led the producer back to “the home of alpacas”—South America.
This year, Merungle Alpacas’ stall at Site 24i will showcase the results of that search: a curated collection of ethically produced garments from Peru and Bolivia, alongside premium brushed throw rugs crafted by experts in New Zealand.
Attendees can browse the extensive range of jumpers, rugs, and socks, or simply learn more about the local alpaca industry.
The display will be located at Site 24i throughout the event on Friday, April 10, and Saturday, April 11.
