Despite variable weather, anglers around East Gippsland are still finding plenty of action.
Lakes Entrance: Salmon are chasing metal lures throughout the lakes system, while prawns remain plentiful. Whiting are active behind Flannigan Island, taking live sandworm and pipis. Lake Bunga Beach is producing decent-sized salmon and snapper, and offshore anglers are landing flathead and gummy sharks.
Lake Tyers: The system continues to deliver great fishing and prawning. Good-sized flathead are being caught on soft plastics, bream are taking vibration blades, and tailor are chasing pilchards.
Mitchell River: Garfish are around the Butter Factory, bream are active off the Silt Jetties and in the lake, while mullet are found near the river mouth and The Cut, taking live sandworm and local prawn. Bass are also active in the river.
Tambo River: Prawns remain plentiful, especially in Tambo Bay. Bream are running hot from Punt Road to the river mouth, with live sandworm and local prawn proving effective.
Nicholson River: Anglers are having success around the river mouth using live sandworm and local prawn.
Metung: Mulloway are being caught from the boardwalk, with occasional kingfish taking lures.
Paynesville/Hollands Landing: Larger bream are active off Hollands Landing and in Newlands Arm, chasing live sandworm and local prawn. Prawns remain active around The Barrier and Raymond Island.
Marlo: Flathead, whiting and bream are taking fresh prawn and sandworm, while salmon and occasional mulloway are being landed off the beach.
Bemm River: Bream and perch are present in the river, with flathead still chasing soft plastics.
Mallacoota: Sandy Point, Gypsy Point and Fisherman’s Pier are producing catches. Recommended baits include soft plastics, minnows, fresh prawn and surface lures. Off the beach, Tip Beach is performing well, while offshore anglers targeting gummy sharks should try the area between the Two Islands.
